MOVING TO NEW SITE

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am not missing, instead I have ventured into the wonderful world of my own website!

http://www.craftyartistkc.com is now live. Although it is not completed, I am slowly transitioning my posts over to the new site. Please please please go check it out and subscribe via email. I will be adding a lot more ways to follow me, but for now, please subscribe via email.

Mandala Weekend

I had completed two separate mandalas this weekend. Although I had a lot going on, somehow I still finished them. Each one took more than 5 hours to complete. I used Staedtler Pigment liners to complete them.

As you can tell, this first one took the most time because there are a LOT of dots. But I really like the way that it came out and how the dots helped with the contrast.

This second one was more free-handed. Its amazing how I can work on two mandalas within hours of each other and they look so different.

For The Horde!

This piece was so delightful. For those of you who don’t know, I am a long time player of World of Warcraft, a mmorpg made by Blizzard. I have been playing since, what we like to call, vanilla wow, which simply means, World of Warcraft before any expansions. Along with playing the game, I have also been a long-time Horde player, which is the cause for the symbol below. I’m sure I could do better if I drew the symbol more, but I think this is pretty good for my first time.

I used several pens and color pencils for this, all of which were Staedtler. Staedtler pigment liners for the black, Staedtler fineliners for the red dots, and Staedtler color pencils for the symbol colored in.

If you also play WOW, I would love to know! Let me know in the comments below.

Tree of Life

I had a friend of mine decide she wanted a tree of life tattoo. Well, although this isn’t her tattoo, it did start out that way. However, I decided to make this one colorful! As everyone knows, I hate coloring my own art, but this one wasn’t that bad. The orange didn’t show up as bright in the scan as it is in real life, but you get the general idea. I used Staedtler fineliners for the lines, which includes the colored lines, and Staedtler color pencils for the coloring in.

Enjoy!

Lunchtime Doodle -02/07/17

Today I decided to challenge myself to do something completely off the wall for me. I needed something abstract. I decided that I was going to start drawing.

So, there it is. I started drawing. After about 15 minutes, I was here. I saw so many things and I hated it. But I told myself to just keep drawing, so I began to focus on one line at a time. I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t subconsciously drawing something because I was working really hard to be completely abstract.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, presenting the final product:

What do you think? I sat it on my desk for the past 4 hours. Scoffing at it and rolling my eyes at the absurdity, but then, something happened! It started to grow on me, the more I looked at it, the more I saw things that I never meant to be there. A submarine, a lawnmower and even something you’d find under a microscope, and yet, it was nothing.

I would love to know your thoughts on this type of art. Also, You will probably notice that my signature has changed, I am trying to make sure that I am adaptable, even after the name change next august!

Lunchtime Doodle – 01/24/17.

So, today I just decided to doodle at lunch today. These  were done around 45 minutes. They are by far not my best doodles, but I feel like it’s important to show the viewers even the pieces that didn’t take any time to complete.

Using doodling as a relaxation tecinque has raised my production in the afternoon. I dont find myself hitting the 3pm wall that I am so used to hitting. Not to mention, I am using my downtime to produce something unique.

What relaxation techniques do you use?
